Mark Wojahn debuted the photo series "Scenes of the Resistance" at his Minneapolis art studio on May 15th, 2026. This debut happened in conjunction with the largest art crawl in the USA, ART-A-WHIRL.The MN Art Festival has been happening since 1995 in Northeast Minneaplis. ART-A-WHIRL is often voted the nations Best Art Crawl per USA Today.
"Scenes of the Resistance" is a on going photo series about the different protests happening in Minneapolis, Madison and Milwaukee Wisc. The protests covered have been either NO KINGS or ICE demonstrations. Wojahn sees this series important as documents and as an historical record, The series focuses on the people and how they express themselves and their civil disobedience and or protest. Wojahn is very keyed in on the signs they create and their emotional response.
This was a multi-media exhibit featuring photographs, video and a life sized mannequin. Protester Jeanne Minnick who lived on the same Mpls street that Renae Goode was killed on, donated her protest clothes, and a sign for the mannequin on display.
Reaction from the attendees ranged from somber rememberance to heartfelt thanks that this work was recorded and on display for the Art Crawl. One young man asked Wojahn if he had made a lot of money on the work, Wojahn responded that "This work isn't made for monetary gain, but he gets more conversation and thoughts shared with him than dollar bills. This work is about validating a community response to current events."
Also on exhibit this weekend at Studio 145 was Wojahn latest documentary, "The Dance Is Not Over" about the life and work of Patrick Scully. Wojahn and Wilbur Ince's screening series Casket Cinema hosted the film. Afterwards Wilbur, Patrick Scully and Wojahn took questions from the audience.
